SMTP AUTH Settings for Outlook XP To configure Outlook XP to use smtp auth (see separate instructions for Outlook Express and 2000): - Open Outlook XP.
- From the Tools menu, select E-mail Accounts.
- Make sure the radio button for View or change existing e-mail accounts is selected, then click Next.
- Select the appropriate account name( your hosted account), then click Change.
- In the Outgoing mail server (SMTP) field, enter
toaster.myitdepartment.net - Verify that the box Log on using Secure Password Authentication (SPA) is NOT checked.
- Click the More Settings button, then select the Outgoing Server tab
and verify the following two selections are ON: My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication Use same settings as my incoming mail server. and complete the field for User Name with your email address (i.e. \n

On the advanced tab, make sure This server requires a secure connection (SSL) is NOT checked. The default port numbers should not need any changes. -
Click OK, then Next, then Finish to save these settings and close all dialog boxes. Outlook XP is now configured for SMTP AUTH.
